Theoretical Approach

My approach to treatment focuses on using play to help children communicate their difficulties and their desires. Because this therapy utilizes toys and play (a child’s natural medium of expression), children can express their feelings more easily than through words. Play therapy is recognized as an effective method for treating children’s emotional and behavioral struggles.

I also use cognitive and expressive therapies, such as role playing, sand tray, and art. These therapies work well with older children and teens. The child takes the lead in this process, and I facilitate the creation of a new narrative in their therapeutic work.

My treatment approach with teens, young adults, and adults is also strength based, utilizing a collaborative cognitive systems approach. This approach is based on understanding all the parts of one self, which includes feelings, negative beliefs, internal conflicts, and protective behaviors. Our collaborative therapeutic work will move you towards understanding yourself through cognitive problem solving, mindfulness and coping skills.
