Struggles are a normal part of life and sometimes we get stuck. We can use an empathetic listener. An outside perspective can provide new tools and skills necessary to get us going again. I create a safe, comfortable environment for my clients that facilitates healing and growth. I value the relational connections that are developed through counseling. Working hand in hand with my clients, we combine my training and experience with their expertise about who they are, what brought them in and where they want to go. My passion is to empower individuals and couples to rediscover themselves by helping them identify and build on their strengths as well as overcome barriers in meeting their life goals.
Who I Serve
I work with children, adolescents and adults of both genders, utilizing individual, couple and family settings. Much of my experience has been working with broken or struggling relationships. The quality and depth of our relationships is directly correlated with health, happiness and life satisfaction. Leaving judgment and blame outside of the counseling room, I am able to develop a strong therapeutic alliance with each person. My focus is to improve or restore the emotional bond by expanding abilities to identify and express one’s feelings, needs and fears, and to deepen understanding and empathy of the other. I also work with individuals dealing with grief, anger, depression, emotionality, anxiety, and self-esteem issues. I help people find comfort in their emotions, equipping them with skills and insight in order to manage and benefit from them, rather than be controlled by them.

Beginning with awareness, one can distance himself from the hold of the past and choose a new way of living. I seek first to listen empathically in order to truly understand my clients and their difficulties. It is essential to begin where they are. I use an eclectic, collaborative approach with my clients, targeting and building on their strengths. Working from a person-centered approach, I utilize evidenced-based therapies, integrating interventions to equip my clients with new coping tools, as well as insight into the origins of their difficulties that have led to ineffective thinking and beliefs and maladaptive behaviors. Depending on my client’s personality, strengths and difficulties, I will integrate interventions from cognitive-behavioral therapy, emotion focused therapy, schema therapy, internal systems therapy, dialectic behavioral skills training, as well as other evidenced based approaches. I also integrate the latest findings on brain science, noting that we are rarely fixed beings; rather, we have great potential for change throughout our life-span due to the plasticity of the brain.
