To feel empowered by our emotions instead of debilitated by them, we must learn how to accept and learn from our intense emotions instead of simply trying to soothe or suppress them.
For some of us, intense emotions can seem to dominate our lives––from anger, fear, mood swings, sadness, panic, trauma, grief, shame, and then often followed by exhaustion, numbness, and withdrawal. Our emotions have only intensified during this pandemic. We, at Cherry Hill, would love to come alongside you and help you find relief and meaning in the midst of such intense emotions.
When We Struggle
Overwhelming emotions, and often the decisions we make as a result of those emotions, can profoundly interfere with our ambitions and dreams, and damage our most meaningful relationships. From avoiding healthy challenges that scare us, to shrinking away from our goals and dreams due to shame, to lashing out in anger when emotionally triggered, overwhelming emotions can dramatically impact the quality of our lives.
Often our go-to strategy is to try to soothe our pain through distractions, addictions, staying busy, entertainment, personal achievement, and even self-harm… but over time we often find these efforts have limited and even self-destructive results.
